Labor Doula

"The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period." Doulas of North America (DONA)

I have been a Birth and Postpartum Doula for over 20 years in the Olympia and surrounding areas. I am happy to provide services to families planning home, birth center, or hospital experiences.  Being with a woman and baby during this amazing time of deep and profound challenge, change, and triumph is a constant miracle in my life.  I am so thankful for this blessing that women and families have given me through our many journeys together!

Birth Doula

As a birth doula I strive to form a strong relationship with a woman and her family through prenatal visits, continuous labor support, and postpartum visits.  Most of my Doula appointments occur in women's homes so that we can get to know each other in your environment where birth may be planned or early labor will unfold prior to transitioning to home or birth center.  Birth plans, how to handle early and deep labor, basic comfort measures, skills to gain more knowledge about medical choices, newborn care, sibling preparation, home organization, nutrition, what to pack for birth, breastfeeding education, and so much more is involved in our time together.

Postpartum Doula

Postpartum doula  visits usually occur in the home and focus on breastfeeding, birth processing, newborn care, and maternal physical healing.  Appointments are scheduled to meet the family's need and usually last 3- 5 hours. When women and newborns are able to fully recuperate after pregnancy and birth they move into breastfeeding, parenting, and their future lives with greater physical and mental health.  Bundles of hours may be purchased for reduced rates.  This is a great gift for an expecting family.
